Ok, my first review on Amazon, so let me tell you about the Pentax DCF WP II 8x42 binoculars...
First off, figuring out all of the "lingo" and other things about optics is really difficult. I just wanted a really excellent pair of binoculars at the best possible price. So, I purchased these.
These binocs were bought specifically to look at animals in Yellowstone National Park. Second use is bird watching at home. Read below, but in short - they performed EXCELLENT!
Comfort - son and girlfriend both wear glasses, and they really like the eyecups and more than adequate eye relief. Quick to focus and smooth eyecup extensions.
Optics - Excellent! Yes, there are likely more expensive coatings, etc. But for the price, these are excellent! (I had a pair of Leupold Green Rings that were stolen, and the clarity was nowhere close to these). Colors are true and bright. Low light viewing (animals at twilight) was excellent! (Notice same word used again and again). 8x power is more than enough to pick out small animals at the edge of the woods when others can't find them.
Weight and Feel - they're heavy, but then again, they feel great in your hands. Quality focus wheel, etc. Eye Cap covers are hokey, but I don't usually use them anyway. Don't lug them for hunting due to their weight, but for hiking and similar activities, they'll be fine.
Summary - Coatings, performance, price, and the entire package is what you would expected to get at around the $500 - $800 range (yes, I've viewed using Leupold, Zeiss, Swarovski, etc). I bought them figuring I might not be pleased and would return them. NO WAY! They're at home now and staying. Don't spend more, and spending less will definitely not get you the quality of these binocs.

Incorporating all of the outstanding elements of the original roof-prism series, the new DCF WP II series now features helicoid eyepieces and aluminum alloy bodies, and super reflective prism coating for brighter images. Available in 8x42 and 10x42 models, the DCF WP II series features phase-coated roof prisms for exceptional high-contrast, high-resolution images and a nitrogen-filled, fully waterproof JIS Class 6 body (submersible to 3.3 feet) for outstanding performance in wet conditions. Other notable features include: Super-Multi-coated optical elements for a bright, clear view of the subject; an inner-focus design for objective lenses; a long eye relief (22mm); extendible helicoid eyepiece rings; click-stop diopter adjuster; durable rubber-coated outer housing; eyepiece caps which double-function as rain shields; and a tripod socket for extended viewing.The Pentax DCF WP II 8 x 42 binocular (black) offers an 8x magnification in a high performance, full-sized, water resistant body, that is has a sleek black finish to help keep you hidden from your target. The DCF WP II high-performance binocular features a simplified body design and an extremely durable, lightweight aluminum alloy encased in a full-body rubber housing to protect the optics and inner mechanisms from external shock, and assure a firm, comfortable hold.
The DCF WP II combines multi-coated optical elements and high-refraction BaK4-glass roof prisms and is treated with phase-chated coating plus a new super-reflection coating to ensure a high-resolution, high-contrast image over the entire image field. Protective glass is incorporated in front of the objective focusing elements to prevent the intrusion of dust into the nitrogen-filled inner body, which helps the DCF WP II offer JIS Class 6 fully waterproof (submersible to 3.3 feet) capability for use around the water and in the rain. And as if that weren't enough, the rubber housing and the protective glass also serve to upgrade the weather resistance on these binoculars, while the inner-focus optical design adds to the durability. These binoculars feature a helicoid eyepiece ring with four-click stops that give the most comfortable eye relief, and click-stop adjustments that lock in the right eyepiece diopter. The fully multi-coated lenses not only increase light transmission and color quality, but provide for long eye-relief for viewing with or without glasses. This unit weighs 28.2 ounces, measures 5 x 2.2 x 5.7 inches (W x H x D), and is backed by a manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty.
