I have used a Minolta 35mm camera for many years and have been very happy with it. Lately there has been "bleed-in" on the pictures so it was time for a change. I did a lot of internet research into cameras which would be simple to use and give good pictures. I decided on the Pentax Espio 140 after reading many reviews and descriptions. After experimenting with a couple rolls of film, I am very happy with the camera. This is my first zoom 35mm and I am still learning the methods of using it. I am especially pleased with the outdoor shots. I learned that the flash has its' limitations when using the zoom in darker situations. Getting the camera loaded and operating is simple. The instructions are easy to read and understand. The film indicator is large enough to read in low light situations. I like the lens cover/slide and do not find it hard to operate. The date feature was something which I definitely wanted and it shows up well. I am also pleased with the close-up pictures which I have taken, however, I am less than totally pleased with the red-eye reduction. I have red eye in some of my pictures and will be experimenting with camera positioning to see if there is something on the user end which can be done about it. I am pleased with the camera and would recommend it to someone looking for a good easy to use camera.

Encased in a compact, low-profile body, the Pentax Espio 140V features a 38-140mm (3.7X) zoom lens and a host of user-friendly features including high-quality optics and a protective, stylish sliding lens cover. Other features include a responsive five-point autofocus system, multi-function auto zoom flash, an actual-image zoom viewfinder with diopter adjustment, and a multi-data LCD panel. This Espio 140V Date model automatically records the date, or day and time, of shooting on the photograph.The Espio 140V offers a high-performance Pentax zoom lens with Super-Multi-Coating, which incorporates two aspherical elements in its eight-element/six-group optics to deliver high-quality images. It also features the Pentax-developed Switchover Zoom system, which contributes to the camera?s compact size and allows the lens to switch effortlessly from wide-angle to telephoto. ITs zoom macro capability assures pinpoint focus on a subject as close as 2.62 feet at 38mm wide angle or 3.77 feet at 140mm telephoto.
The passive autofocus system assures pinpoint focus even from a distance or through window glass. The five-point wide focus frame keeps the subject in perfect focus at any focal length, even when it is positioned off-center or two subjects are standing apart.
The built-in auto zoom flash automatically provides fill-in illumination and adjusts the angle of discharge in proportion to the selected focal length. A red-eye reduction mode minimizes this annoying effect, and the soft-flash function lowers the discharge level to avoid over-exposure in close-up photography.
